The seasons in South Africa are the opposite of those in Belgium. This means that the winter lasts from June to August and the summer from December to February.
You can’t speak of a real winter: the average temperature is still 18 °C. The highest temperature in winter can be found in the northeast of South Africa. The Kruger Park still has temperatures of 26 to 27 °C in the coolest months. In the south, the cool air can cause a bit of rain.
In the summer (December to February) it is quite hot in the northwest. The temperature in the desert area easily rises to 34 to 38 °C during the day. The Kruger Park is also very warm in this period (over 30 °C during the day). At the same time there is a reasonable chance of rain and a fairly high relative humidity. During this period the malaria mosquitoes are also active in the east of South Africa.
Every season has its advantages and disadvantages, it is up to you to decide which period suits your family best so that your trip to South Africa with children will be a success.
