De stad Soweto

Day 2: By bike trough Soweto

Enjoy a half-day cycling adventure in the township and get to know the different communities. You will also learn more about the history of this township. You will feel and experience the culture and life of today thanks to our local site-guide.

Some of the highlights?

  • Historical monuments from the time of the student uprisings of 1976.
  • The memorial of Hector Pieterson.
  • Vilakazi Street, where Nelson Mandela lived and where the bishop Desmond Tutu has his home.

And all this by bike! You will visit the different parts of Soweto. This way you will discover that it is not all moonlight and roses: development is still needed and there is still a lot of poverty. At the same time, some areas have developed into “small prosperous suburbs”. With this tour you will gain insight into the many faces of Soweto and relive the past with the Soweto uprising and the resistance against Apartheid. This tour is fit for children above 12 years old.

Day 3: Departure from Johannesburg

Today you leave Johannesburg. Ideally, you’ll spot the Big Five and visit a park like Pilanesberg or the Kruger Park.  You can stay in Hazyview or White River.
