Where to stay?
cape town

Day 1: Cape Town

You arrive at your lodge. Cape Town needs little introduction: it’s a combination of mountains, sea and vineyards, loved by everybody. This is a city with two faces: European and African. Despite its contrasts, Cape Town is a safe and relaxed city that you must see. If you’re there, be sure to stop in Den Anker. In this Belgian restaurant on the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront you can enjoy a tasteful meal. You also have a magnificent view on Table Mountain.

Table Mountain is probably the most characteristic and most famous point of Cape Town. Its flat top has an area of almost 3 square km and offers magnificent views over the city.

Tafelberg

Day 2: Off you go with the supersteps!

Get ready for a 5km off-road route from Signal Hill to the Bo-Kaap. When you descend along this track, a final descent awaits you on a narrow path of the benchmark of Cape Town: Table Mountain. Supersteps are of course not motorized, so this is a sustainable trip.

Descending on supersteps is certainly not too fast and is feasible for everyone. Younger children go on the step with the adults. This is the most favorite activity of our 14-year-old son Joran.

STELLENBOSCH

Day 3: To the wineries in Stellenbosch

Stellenbosch is a charming town in the heart of the Cape Wine region. Discover here the beautiful “wine estates”, the estates of the wine barons. In the meantime, enjoy the wines and walk or cycle between the vines.

You will stay on a beautiful estate in the middle of the wine-growing area of Stellenbosch. Taste their wines and enjoy a nice swim. Lovely!

Wijngaarden

Day 4: Storms River by kayak

Today you will cycle for about 3 hours between the vines and enjoy the beautiful view. In the meantime you can taste wine at three different wineries. The children are served juices and delicacies. You cycle about 21 km.

Farm

Day 5: Relaxing on the farm

Heidelberg is a nice town in the Western Cape. It lies in a beautiful green valley at the foot of the Langenberg Mountains and is a small oasis! You will stay on a picturesque farm, beautifully located and with panoramic views.

On the farm you can enjoy a rural breakfast and home-made dishes with the emphasis on local cuisine. This is really pure relaxation: take a walk on the grounds, help on the farm or relax by the outdoor pool.

Every morning you can participate in the local Olympiad: How long can you stand with one leg on an ostrich egg? Currently the record is 3 minutes and 47 seconds. Will you break it?

There is still a lot to see in the area. The nature reserve Grootvadersbosch is 15 kilometers away and the National Park Bontebok is 50 minutes drive from the farm.

Reserve

Day 6: On safari in the game reserve!

Wow, what a beautiful place! You arrive at your lodge in the middle of the reserve and enjoy the beautiful views. You are also really spoiled here with a delicious breakfast and dinner.

big 5

Day 7: Spot the big 5 in a guided game drive

Today you will go under the guidance of an experienced ranger into the park in search of the big 5. An experience never to forget!

oudtshoorn

Day 8: Arrival at Oudtshoorn, at the ostrich farm

You will stay in a beautiful place with wide views of the wonderful Swartberg mountains that change colour every hour. Relax and enjoy the swimming pool and a delicious dinner in the restaurant. You also have a magnificent view while swimming and when sitting at your table.

autruche

Day 9: On the road to the Cango caves and the ostrich farm

KNYSNA

Day 10: Departure to Knysna

You will arrive at your lodge which is located on Leasure Island, an island near Knysna. Leisure Island is a great choice for travellers who love beach walks and peace and quiet. For example, there’s Bollard Bay, a very child-friendly beach on Leasure Island. It is located in the lagoon, very safe for swimming. You will find it on the southern side of the island. Buffels Bay beach as well, is very nice and quiet for families with children.

Xhosa

Day 11: Visit the Xhosa people

The Xhosa population lives in the Knysna-township. On a tour of about 2 to 3 hours you will visit the Xhosa population. You go to a township and get information about how they live there. You will learn more about housing, education and health care. But you will also get to know the small businesses in shipping containers.

Children also like this tour because you visit a kindergarten, take language lessons, sing, play drums and a lot more.

If you prefer to taste oysters and make a trip in the lagoon, choose the building block: “Taste delicious oysters in Knysna”.

ADDO ELEPHANTS PARK

Day 12: Arrival at Addo Elephants Park

Today you will arrive at the lodge. You can choose between the basic accommodation in the park itself (scattered bungalows with a beautiful view from the terrace) or the more luxurious accommodation just outside the park which is also beautifully located.

ADDO ELEPHANTS PARK

Day 13: Looking for the elephants

Today you can drive around the park. Do you want to know where the animals are? Check with the guard at the entrance of the park. He always managed to send us in the right direction. There is also a board at the restaurant where visitors voluntarily indicate where all the animals are. The best chance to see a large group of elephants is at Hapoor Dam. They often stop at the watering places for water and cooling. In noon you can have lunch in the restaurant in the park.

The baby elephants are of course the cutest ones according to the children. You will also see many Kudus, zebras, moose, hartebeest and bushbucks. You can also spot lions!

Day 14: Going back home!

Today you will return to Belgium after a super-active and at the same time enjoyable holiday.
