Live among locals
Added building block to your journey
On day 1 we leave for the Maewang region. After a ride through beautiful surroundings, we descend the river on a bamboo raft. It is a very calm and easy river ride, suitable for all ages. We continue and visit the Maewang waterfall.
In the late afternoon you arrive at the “Karen tribe” family. It is a guesthouse with great views on the rice fields! You are welcomed by very friendly people you immediately feel comfortable with. It is only a small climb to your private sleeping cabin, but what a breathtaking view! Make sure you take some time to just sit on your terrace to enjoy this amazing place.
You sleep on mattresses with a mosquito net. Basic and simple, but that is part of the whole experience! The toilet and bathroom are located in a separate cabin. With this building block you really go back to basics: no electricity in the evening, only torches!
In the evening you are invited to join them for dinner. Try out the hotpot as the children can barbecue themselves. Also eat some fruit as it really tastes delicious. Go to bed and listen to the sounds of nature, as, often, these are the only noises you can hear.‘
After a relaxing night’s rest, your family will serve you a local breakfast, which tastes delightful!
Today you leave for Doi Inthanon, the highest peak of Thailand (2565 m). The Doi In Thanon National Park is a beautiful park with tropical forest and impressive waterfalls. After lunch you go for a two hour hike, walking on small forest paths and crossing bamboo bridges, while you will see several waterfalls. It is not really a tough walk, but there are a few climbs on ladders and bamboo bridges. Of course, children are the boss now, so they determine the speed!
After this adventure you continue to the next building block in Chiang Mai: you can ride the tuk tuk yourself , go back to school or have a mud fight with elephants.
