Some “money” tips in Florida:

  • Make sure your card allows you to witdraw money in Florida. This function usually has to be activated at your bank.
  • Always make sure that you take enough cash with you. In Florida you pay with American dollars. The exchange rate between the dollar and the euro varies continuously under the influence of the international currency trade.
  • There are plenty of ATMs in Florida. In city centers, in shopping centers and also in some amusement parks you can easily withdraw money with your credit card. These ATM’s (Automatic Teller Machines) accept most credit cards. Please note that withdrawals are subject to a fee. This is often a percentage of the withdrawal price and/or a fixed amount per transaction. It is usually advantageous to withdraw larger amounts at once.
  • No other country in the world where credit cards are as common as in America. Also in Florida you can pay nearly everywhere with your credit card.
  • Tipping is something typically American and can be a bit confusing for tourists. Waitresses, bartenders, taxi drivers, porters, bellboys, chambermaids etc. work in the service sector and are relatively poorly paid. Americans like to decide for themselves how much the service was worth and show their appreciation for the tip. Tips are a part of the salary. Tipping is almost mandatory and there are some guidelines for different services. In a restaurant, the tip is normally between 15% and 20% of the bill (without tax). This is about 2 to 2.5 times the tax. A tip is not required in fast food restaurants or self-service. Barmen get about 50 cents per drink.
